Over the last several years my mother in law has been battling cancer. Anyone who has been through this or watched a loved go through this can understand how difficult this is. Unfortunately her cancer has returned yet again and is more aggressive than before. She is currently hospitalized and and going through one of the toughest times of her journey with no certainty of her outcome.
As if that wasn't enough my father in law has recently been diagnosed with a very rare form of colon cancer. He is currently receiving chemo/radiation with the hope of shrinking the mass enough to perform surgery. Every day has been a struggle to care for his wife and himself.
My wife and her brother have been doing their best to keep everything together and give their parents as much support as possible. At this point it feels surreal, almost like a sad version of the twilight zone. The bad days have outnumbered the good days quite some time ago.
With everything that is going on who could blame them if they thought "why me?" or "when is it enough?".  They have chosen not to waste any of the precious time they have left together worrying about questions that are beyond us. Their faith has been unshakable even as their lives have been in turmoil.
Sadly as my in laws fight for their health and to keep a sliver of normalcy life outside of our family goes on. Bills need paid, mortgages are due, groceries are still needed. Anyone that has dealt with not only cancer but any tragedy can understand just how quick everything can be turned upside down. It is scary just how fragile our day to day lives truly are.
It is in these moments when we see  each other suffering we rally together. I know not everyone has money they can spare and that's fine. A kind word of encouragement or a simple prayer for my wife and her family could mean more than you will ever know. Please help me show my in laws "No one fights alone!"
