The Stars at Night - Student Filmmaker Shoot

What would it be like to see the stars the way the Ancients did?

That's the goal for the student filmmakers joining us in the Big Bend this summer as we produce our feature documentary The Stars at Night. We're trying to raise the funds needed to get our production team and three student filmmakers out to the Big Bend, one of the few certified dark sky zones in the nation, to view the Milky Way without any of the light pollution that makes it hard or impossible to see it in most of the country.

We're planning on spending time in Big Bend National Park and the surrounding towns in June during the new moon, so the sky will be as dark as they can be, for both the experience of our filmmakers, and so we can capture the most stunning footage of the stars possible.

We have three young filmmakers on this journey with us, they've set out to shoot their own short film during this trip, in a way they'll be making their own star stories that will hopefully inspire others to get out, see the night sky, spend time in nature, and be considerate when choosing how much excess light they use.

Mykal Bayne: Mykal Bayne is a Junior within both of Texas State's Film and Electronic Media Departments. While also working towards a minor in Chinese, Mykal's diverse background in videography and editing has lended itself to ensuring every production is executed smoothly and efficiently.

Nader Yousef: Nader Yousef is a Writer, Director, Musician, Actor, and a soon to be Texas State graduate. He has written and directed a few short films, including 4 Action short films that he choreographed the moves for. Other than writing and directing his films, he has also made the music for most of them, incorporating his guitar, piano, and digital music production skills of eleven years. Nader has lived in multiple countries throughout his life and hopes his diverse background will aid him in his craft as he explores all genres of film and music.

Will Fitzpatrick: Will Fitzpatrick is a young aspiring entertainer who is currently pursuing a degree in theatre with a concentration in film at Texas State University. Will began performing at the age of four with his father, Kevin Fitzpatrick, who is a professional western arts performer. Will grew up spinning ropes and cracking whips for thousands of people, even managing to win the title of World Champion Youth Trick Roper in 2008. Since Fitzpatrick has graduated high school, he has continued to strive for a career in the entertainment business, using his skills of whip cracking and rope spinning to act as a wedge into the new world. It is Will’s goal to bring his visions to life and entertain as many people as he can along the way.

All of the money raised with this fundraiser will go directly towards getting our documentary made, between hotels, travel, food, and insurance there are a lot of things we need to make this happen! Know that your contribution will be directly helping make this movie happen.
