Happy New Year Family and Friends!
Today, January 26, 2018, we celebrate the life of our beloved son Steven Phillip Odom and the legacy he has inspired from the 13 years he lived to this day, his 24th birthday. For the past 10 years, it has been our unwavering desire to give definition to Steven's legacy. This evening we will hostThe Steven P. Odom Training for Life Foundation "The SPOT" birthday kickoff fundraiser. We believe it is fitting to birth the foundation on Steven's birthday! The SPOT's mission is to invest in children ages 6 yrs to 13 yrs old.
Steven was murdered by another teenager. We have often wondered what happened to the young person to lead him to a place where he would commit such a crime. By focusing on younger children and their families, we hope to change the trajectory of young people who are (or one day could be) on a similar path to that of the teens involved in Steven's murder. We believe that all children can thrive when they are given the tools to recognize, pursue, and achieve their full potential.
The SPOT for Life will reflect Steven's spirit - his positive outlook, love of sports and music, and commitment to family.
To achieve this mission, the SPOT will focus on the following activities:
1) Advocating around issues impacting 6 yr to 13 yr olds and their families,
2) Supporting nonprofit organizations that are working to assist and inspire young people, including youth services programs and parenting support organizations, and
3) Scholarship program.
We thank all of you who donated over the past months since October 4, 2017. We have a new goal for 2018. Please help us raise $126,000 this year!
