Gun Violence Affects Us All. You Can Help.
We are Influencing the decisions of individuals and policy makers with a visually stunning call to action unlike any other gun violence prevention initiative.
Donate to help make Soul Box Project exhibits available to grieving families, communities and organizations all over the U.S.
Together we can comfort hearts and prompt actions to reduce the gunfire epidemic that affects us all.
Did you know over 70,000 men, women and children are SHOT each year?
Over half the deaths are suicide.
Public and domestic gun violence, defense and accidents kill the rest.
The 3,700 Soul Boxes below represent just one month of U.S. gunfire deaths.
The number of gunfire injuries is even higher. Many victims are disabled for life. Countless others struggle with psychological trauma.
Each unique origami Soul Box holds a space for a life lost or torn apart by gunfire – counting and remembering each victim.
Soul Boxes are made by people like YOU, from all over our country, who are grieving for the victims of our nation's escalating health crisis of gunfire deaths and injuries.
The ARTivism of The Soul Box Project helps us see and feel these lives with a visually stunning call to action unlike any other gun violence prevention initiative.
Inspired by the memory of the AIDS Memorial Quilt, The Soul Box Project took 200,000 Soul Boxes to the National Mall in Washington, D.C., in October 2021. The exhibit, This Loss We Carry was experienced by over 5,000 visitors and the media reach of 500 MILLION was phenomenal! Now individuals and organizations all over the country want to bring The Soul Box Project to their communities, cities and states.
BIPOC communities are disproportionately impacted, yet survivor Beverly Emers reminds us that "all flavors" of people carry this loss.
The Project has been collecting Soul Boxes and exhibiting them since 2018. Bringing 200,000 Soul Boxes to our nation's capital was a goal nurtured through the COVID pandemic, rocketing gun sales and daily shootings. Thousands of volunteers and hundreds of donors contributed to get This Loss We Carry to D.C. They knew it was essential to bring national attention to the gunfire epidemic in a new and captivating way.
Now we need funding to respond to all the people and places wanting Soul Box exhibits to raise awareness in an engaging way that is not divisive and prompts heartfelt, individual responses. Remembering victims brings hope for a better future –realizing the magnitude of this epidemic can lead to using gun locks or talking about anger from trauma, or reaching out to a distressed friend.
Did you know over half the U.S. gunfire deaths are suicides?
Teen suicide rates are rising every year.
It doesn't have to be like this.
There is no single solution, but collaborative art and individual actions can bring change when we help individuals and organizations think with their hearts.
DONATE NOW to help us take the impact of this visual message to the next level. The coming year will be an opportunity for The Soul Box Project to become a powerful influence as we
• raise awareness of the U.S. gunfire epidemic by counting and honoring victims
• offer healing participation to those seeking solace
• and provide dramatic visual support for all initiatives working for a safer,
more civil society.
Art reaches hearts, actions follow.
WITH YOUR HELP WE'VE MADE AN IMPACT. WITH YOUR HELP WE CAN DO MORE.
