The Soma Room's Ealing Half Marathon Fundraiser
At The Soma Room, we're used to helping runners stay injury-free whilst training for races, but this year we've decided to put the (running) shoe on the other foot, and dust off our trainers to take part in the Ealing Half Marathon on the 26th September!
Sophie, Donna, Emily, Ann and Daniel are all taking part this year. Between us, we have a wide range of running experience - from complete beginners who have never worn a pair of running shoes before, to experienced runners who have completed a number of marathons and ultramarathons!
If you'd like to follow our progress, and the blood, sweat and tears (hopefully mainly sweat!) that will inevitably follow, we will be posting updates on our blog page.
We will be raising money for BEfriend - an Ealing-based charity that provides one-to-one volunteer befriending services to people who are socially isolated because of physical, sensory, cognitive or psychological impairment.
Alongside their core befriending project, they also help to provide support for carers, by sending volunteers for three hours a week to allow family members to have a break from their caring role.
They do not charge for their services and rely completely on support from individuals and grant-making trusts. A one-off donation of £40 pays for them to train and DBS check one new volunteer, so your contribution can make a real difference to someone who is isolated and housebound without support.
Mental health, loneliness and support for carers are all causes we care deeply about at The Soma Room, and we would appreciate whatever you can contribute to this important local charity.
Thank you so much in advance for your support, and we hope to see you at the finish line!
