The Salvage Arc Foundation Museum & Community Center

Hello! I'm Evan Woodard—historian, explorer, and the voice behind the Salvage Arc Instagram account.

My journey began during the challenging times of the pandemic when I took a shovel into my hands, not knowing that I was about to unearth a deep connection to Baltimore's hidden histories. With each dig into our city's old privies, I brought to light not just artifacts but the vibrant stories of those who walked these streets long before us. Their tales lost to time but rediscovered through our efforts, deserve to be celebrated and remembered.

Through my research and explorations, I have lovingly restored hundreds of historical items that have captured the imaginations of people across Baltimore in various pop-up museums. These glimpses into our past have not only educated but also inspired many.

Driven by a deep passion to keep this spirit of discovery alive, I founded the Salvage Arc Foundation in 2024, a dedicated 501(c)(3) organization. Our goal is ambitious yet profound: to build out our space and establish a museum and community center in the historic heart of Fells Point. This center will not only display our fascinating finds but will also serve as a vibrant hub for learning and connection, offering hands-on experiences in historical research for both children and adults.

Thank you for being part of this exciting journey.

Goals
  • Open A Physical Museum & Community Center in Fells Point (2024): One of our most ambitious endeavors is establishing a state-of-the-art museum in Fells Point. This space will be home to a vast collection of artifacts I have recovered over the years and provide an interactive learning experience for visitors.
  • Expand Educational Outreach: We aim to reach every school and community in Baltimore, ensuring that every child and adult gains an appreciation for our city's history and the importance of environmental conservation.
  • State-wide Magnet Fishing Events: While our primary focus is Baltimore's history, our vision extends throughout Maryland. We aim to organize magnet fishing events across the state, enhancing environmental health and fostering a community of treasure hunters.
  • Collaborative Efforts: Partnerships with local organizations, schools, and environmental groups are crucial. We aim to forge strong collaborations, ensuring our mission resonates throughout Baltimore and beyond.

Our Values
At the heart of The Salvage Arc Foundation lie the core values that shape our endeavors, guide our actions, and define our commitment to the community. These principles are the pillars upon which our foundation stands:

  • Integrity: We hold ourselves to the highest standards of honesty and transparency in all our operations, ensuring that our community can trust us to preserve and present history with utmost accuracy and sincerity.
  • Education: We believe that knowledge empowers. Our commitment to education aims to foster curiosity, deepen understanding, and inspire a lifelong love for history and environmental stewardship.
  • Preservation: Our dedication to safeguarding artifacts goes beyond mere collection. We understand the stories, memories, and lessons they hold. It is our duty to ensure these treasures are protected for generations to come.
  • Environmental Responsibility: As guardians of the present, we recognize our duty towards the environment. Our magnet fishing initiatives reflect our commitment to creating a cleaner future.
  • Community Engagement: Baltimore's heart and soul is its community. We are devoted to building strong relationships, understanding community needs, and ensuring that our mission aligns with the aspirations of the people we serve.
  • Inclusivity: History belongs to everyone. We strive to create an environment where everyone, regardless of age, race, gender, or background, feels welcomed, valued, and heard.

The Salvage Arc Foundation thrives on the generous support of individuals and communities that share our vision. Your contributions go directly towards preserving artifacts, hosting educational events, supporting our magnet fishing environmental cleanup, and ensuring that the dream of establishing a world-class museum in Fells Point becomes a reality.
