The Rock House Bahamas Employee Relief Fund
Donation protected
Three weeks ago almost over night, we all had to conform to the current pandemic of the Corona virus. Difficult decisions had to be made in order to protect our Community and the Country, decisions that affected everyone working in the hospitality industry. Borders were closed, airports shutdown and curfews set with a "stay inside "order.
In my 58 years, I have never had to make a decision so difficult as laying off 46 employees without pay. These people are like family to me and though it weighed heavy on my heart, there was no other choice.
Rock House is now closed until further notice. Our employees are at home with their families, trying to make ends meet, keep a roof over their heads and food on the table.
Without a steady income, many of them are struggling to provide for their families and it will only get worse.
I have given away much of the food and perishables in our storage to assist them, but that is just a bandaid on a huge wound.
I decided to open this account to fund their struggle until the time when the Rock House can reopen, a fund that will also help the island economy to run as our daily provisions depend on a lot of local business.
Please consider donating , any amount is greatly appreciated.
Once we return to the "new normal", we will welcome you all back to Harbour Island with a huge smile, a big thank you and our world famous goombay smash!
Harbour Island is still the beautiful and safe place that you remember.
With Love & Thanks, Don Purdy / Owner Rock House
