As the weather warms, work will begin in earnest on the restoration of Lehigh & New England Alco S2 #611. Projects in 2022 will include putting roller-bearing trucks under the locomotive as we start the restoration working from the rails up.
This Spring Forward fundraiser will help give the effort an extra boost to our early 2022 tasks.

The non-profit Railroad & Industrial Preservation Society, Inc (RIPS) has embarked upon the restoration of Lehigh & New England Railroad #611 – one of America’s most historic diesel locomotives. The 73 year-old locomotive will be restored to operating condition in Kutztown, PA.
#611 is the last surviving intact diesel-electric locomotive from the Lehigh & New England Railroad, which served the coal, slate and cement regions of eastern Pennsylvania along with northwestern New Jersey and southern New York.
An estimated $150,000 is required for the restoration and care of the locomotive. Close to 10% of that goal has already been raised.
