The Reeves' Infertility Journey

          We have been married for almost four years and are currently full time pastors ministering to both youth and young adults at an amazing church in Lansing, Michigan.  Before we were even engaged we knew that we wanted to have a big family.   Joanna spent her high school and college years working as a nanny and loved taking care of babies and kids.

           In January 2017 we decided it was time to start trying to grow our family.  Joanna has a family history of difficult conception so we were prepared for it to take some time...but not this long.  After a year of trying to conceive, we sought medical help and Joanna began taking medicine.  In January  2018 Joanna had a surgical procedure which found endometriosis. While this condition doesn’t make conception impossible, it does make it extremely difficult.  Knowing this, we spent the beginning of 2018 altering Joanna’s medicines, injections, and also trying three IUIs (Intrauterine insemination), which all failed.

           In May of this year we were told that IVF (In-Vitro Fertilization) would be our best alternative. We wrestled with this all summer, praying for a miracle. We told ourselves we would try until August and then seek the Lord on what to do next.  September is here, and while this is not a decision we made lightly, we have a peace about growing our family by the means of IVF. This will be a minimum of a two-month long process, and the doctor’s appointments, medications, injections, and procedures add up to about $20,000.

           At this point we have prayed and have decided to ask for financial help with this overwhelming cost.  We have already spent close to $4,000 on our procedures up to date, and need help to continue moving forward. Asking for help, especially financial help, is one of the hardest things to do for us. The only thing we know that is harder….is fighting a battle alone.  In NO WAY do we want to put pressure on anyone, but EVERY donation, be it large or small, will help and will be truly appreciated!  We are blessed to have so many amazing people in our lives so that asking for help, isn’t as hard as it is for some.
