The Railway Woman

Donation protected

“The Railway Woman” is TFL Creative Media's latest and most ambitious short film so far.  The story follows Alice, a young teenager with a deep passion for steam locomotives, who faces uncertainty in a male dominated environment. This musical will defy societal expectations by exploring the journey of this queer, autistic woman when she faces the scrutiny from her peers leading to an accident that she causes.

TFL Creative Media was founded by Toby Loxton in December 2015 creating a platform to share his creative endeavours, which have been quite few!  During the last five years, Toby has successfully accumulated over 1.4K subscribers on YouTube alone; we expect this to continue to grow over the coming months.

So where did ‘The Railway Woman’ originate?  Our talented Director, Toby Loxton has always had a fascination and passion for railways, particularly steam locomotives; this film will exhibit his passion clearly. For months Toby has been carefully writing the screenplay from both his own experience and with focus groups exploring the issues.  Our production is an aspiring one as well as being a personal ambition for Toby. Toby is autistic and identifies as part of the LGBTQ+ community giving him a unique perspective for this story.  Toby and the TFL team have been working tirelessly to make this beautiful story a reality.

‘The Railway Woman’ is vital to be told as nearly 1% of the UK population is autistic, yet there is a lack of representation of autism in the media from an autistic character's point of view; this film aims to change that.  Furthermore we want to address the representation of women with autism in the media striving to steer away from the age old stereotypes and lack of representation. Studies show women and girls with autism are more likely to 'mask’ their autistic features than men and boys, therefore resulting in women often going undiagnosed at least until their early adult life. It is time this cycle came to an end and we at TFL Creative Media want to shed light on this shadowed issue, so please stay tuned and help us to share the story.
