I need your help to publish a book of my songs to be released as a celebration of my 40th birthday in January 2021. Please share this if you can. *See financial accessibility at the bottom.
I've been going through a lot of changes lately. I've been dealing with a cancer diagnosis during the COVID-19 lockdown. My treatment of chemotherapy and radiation will be from May 2020 to July 2020. I'll be taking from July 2020 to January 2021 for recovery. This is a project that will bring me a some joy during this difficult period.
Between 2001 and 2021, I released 110 songs on 11 solo albums. Often, I get requests from people who want to the chords or tablature for them. I'm not able to use notation to write the music for my songs. I'll be hiring someone to create sheet music, guitar tablature/chord chart, banjo tablature/chord chart (if I played banjo on it) and lyrics for the 110 songs. Each book will also include download codes for the eleven-album discography of the songs.
I started writing songs when I was twelve and I believe that a song has as many stories as it has listeners. I will include some writing about each album and song for folks who are interested in my perspective on them. I find it hard to pinpoint song meanings, but each one has memories they evoke of writing, recording or performing them.
I’ll look for a publisher for the book, but I’m happy to self-publish.
My costs are (I want to pay people working on it their market rates.):
-Getting the 110 songs on sheet music, guitar and banjo tablature/chord charts.
-An editor to review my writing with me.
-An artist to design the cover image or logo..
-A book designer to create the layout for the printed and e-books.
- cost of getting the ISBN number and bar code.
-The cost of printing hard cover linen wrapped books.
-The cost of printing download code cards or bookmarks for the eleven-album discography.
The costs for creating the book will be around $6000.
If I only raise part of my funding goal, I'll still create the book. It may be a print-to order-book. Most likely a booklet or soft cover book.
The total costs with printing books are closer to $11,000.
I would be very happy to print the book the way I imagine it. As a child, I used to love pulling the paper off of hardcover books to see the linen wrapped covers underneath. I want the song book to have a linen cover like this:
I won’t be able to do the traditional crowd funding reward system because I don’t know if I’ll reach my goal to print a run of the books.
