My name is Angelina Vega, and I am the producer of The Plus Show: An All Plus Sized Burlesque Revue . (You might know me by my stage name, Bianca Coal.)
The Plus Show is a celebration of larger-bodied folx through the art of burlesque in Columbus, Ohio.
Society tells larger-bodied people that they are not attractive or not capable of being loved. The Plus Show reminds people of all shapes and sizes that beauty is not “one-size-fits-all.”
Through a competitive application process beginning in February 2020, the best plus-sized burlesque artists from throughout the United States will be selected to perform at The Plus Show in October 2020.
I am asking for support from you to help make this fabulous show a reality. I previously produced and almost completely funded this show in October 2017 by myself.
This year, I want to make The Plus Show even better, and I need your help. I have selected a bigger (seats about 200), more professional venue to better showcase the beautiful performers that are selected to perform. Unfortunately, the venue is quite pricey, but worth it. Burlesque performers deserve to perform in the best venues.
One very important reason as to why I haven't produced The Plus Show since 2017 is because it is very important to me to pay ALL my performers, kittens (stage hands), and crew wages that are above average for burlesque in Columbus, Ohio. I wasn't going to produce the show again until I had the money on-hand to pay everyone fairly at the end of the show. I don't want to rely on revenue from selling out to pay everyone.
Although I have saved and have the funds to pay my cast and crew above average wages for Columbus, I want to be able to pay more. As a performer myself, I know how expensive it is and how much work it is to put together an act. Many of the performers come from out of town and pay their own travel expenses. I know how hard the crew works to make everything come together smoothly. The Plus Show cast and crew deserve to be paid exceptional wages, and not just above average. Please help me make that a reality.
I estimate The Plus Show will cost $6,000 to produce. This conservative estimate includes venue rental, cast and crew pay, marketing costs, programs, a videographer, a photographer, and dance studio rental for classes. I am asking for help with 1/2 of the cost of The Plus Show to help reduce the need for my personal funds (I'm a baller on a budget, y'all) and to help me pay my cast and crew exceptional wages and/or offer out-of-town performers a travel stipend.
The Plus Show means so much to me. Plus-sized performers are often overlooked as headliners, featured performers, and as performers in burlesque festivals. I want to provide them a showcase where they can shine, and you can watch some of the best burlesque in the country.
