I began producing The Pledge Podcast in 2018 as a way to celebrate people who are devoting themselves - making a pledge - to keeping our democracy strong. Since starting the podcast, I have found dozens of inspiring stories that demonstrate the breadth and depth of American political engagement. I know these stories will help all of us get involved and stay involved. They sure help keep me going. The more stories we share, the more powerful we will become as an engaged activist community, owning our democracy, and ensuring that our voices are heard.

I started in Alabama because I wanted to know more about all the energy that came together to elect Democrat Doug Jones to the U.S. Senate. Season Two then focused on stories from Virginia. Season 3 is focusing on efforts to protect voting rights in the states of Florida and Michigan. I’m now reaching out to my listeners to help me fund Season Four. 

For Season Two I raised just over $7000. This made a significant difference to my ability to keep the podcast going. For Season Three, I received partial support from the Ford Foundation. I am now pursuing foundation funding and possible partnerships with activist organizations, which would allow The Pledge to grow into a true network of activists around shared stories and mutual inspiration. The more you, as listeners, show your dedication and support, the more attractive the project will be for potential outside funding sources and partners.
