The People's Pride Kansas City 2023

Welcome to the People’s Pride, where corporations and cops are merely a fragment of queer lore from an era deep in our past! Welcome to the People’s Pride, where colorful banners decorate the streets, local musicians serenade children and adults with anthems for community-building, and trans joy abounds!

This year a small group of queer organizers wanted to do something a little different for Pride. We came together and dreamed up the People’s Pride, an event in the West Bottoms at the tail end of Pride month that celebrates local artists and culture makers without the blessing of Big Gay (the corporate farce that dominates Pride branding and marketing every year).

In the rebellious spirit of stonewall, we are asking our beautiful community to help us throw the biggest DIY party in KC. A parade will lead us through the West Bottoms and end at 9th and State for a free outdoor live show with art and food vendors. This party is kid-friendly. It will also feature community resources addressing relevant issues like healthcare, housing, and jobs for queer people in our city. Our goal is to pay a diverse range of artists to put on this amazing event, and we need your help!

ALL funds will go DIRECTLY to local culture makers; queer bands, organizers, drag performers and more. Please give what you can, and bring your full queer selves to the party on Sunday, June 25th in the West Bottoms! See you there.
