The Passing of our Little Brother Jovanni

Jovanni was the goodwill ambassador of all things loving, pure and joyful. He was a friend, even to a stranger, a brother, even to an enemy, and most of all, a fighter. Having the spirit and personality of an angel, Jovanni raised the bar for us humans here on earth.
Early Life
As a 4-year-old child, Jovanni underwent chemotherapy to rid his body of leukemia. In this process, Jovanni lived with mouth sores, an aching body, and constant nausea. The chemotherapy took a hard toll on his body, but not on his Spirit.
Due to complications towards the end of his journey with cancer, he suffered two heart attacks by the age of 6 years old landing him in the ICU, once again fighting…for his life. As we removed the breathing tubes, getting ready to say our goodbyes, Jovanni regained consciousness – a present day miracle.
School & Character
At age 6 years, he was in complete remission from leukemia and keeping in good health, Jovanni continued daily life, living out his youthful experiences, keeping a smile on his face and purely loving those around him. He survived all the odds and soon attended J.C. Mitchell Elementary School, where he found friendship with students, and staff members alike. His first teacher, Ms. Slade, said he was her Class Mayor. At his school, he was recognized for his many talents including winning several awards, obtaining the most number awards out of everyone in his school. Some of these awards that he received, included “the citizenship award” and “Most helpful student.” Additionally, Jovanni loved to participate in the Special Olympics, where he also received a multitude of rewards.
Jovanni showed and displayed love and compassion for everyone he met and did not hesitate to give hugs every single day. Not only was he a sweetheart, but he was a humorous individual. The highlight of his school day was running into his older sister, Sade, who is currently employed at JC Mitchell Elementary School. He would drop whatever he was doing to greet her with an abundance of joy and love, always brightening her day. He displayed an insatiable love and cordiality for the police and firefighters whom he befriended and came across, without reservation, wherever he went. Although partially speech impaired, he never forgot to remind us of his unconditional love; repeating “I love you” to those around him.
Tragedy
On Thursday, November 14th, Jovanni was rushed to the ER. By the time he arrived in the hands of doctors, most of his veins had collapsed and his heart was surrounded by blood. Jovanni then went into cardiac arrest, causing his organs to shut down, and his body to go into shock.
With all efforts put forward, the Lord called his child home on Thursday, November 14th, 2019. He was only 11 years old. But he is in a place of complete bliss, no suffering, and an abundance of happiness. Three years ago, at his mother’s funeral, Jovanni moved towards the graveside and echoed “bye mommy.” Today, he is reunited with her and the Lord. He is blessed. He is spiritually alive. We are greatly saddened but thankful Jovanni is at peace and now whole again.
