Supporting Luis Alvarez and Family

On December 20, 2020, our beloved Luis Alvarez passed away after an arduous battle with glioblastoma, an aggressive form of terminal brain cancer. After his initial diagnosis, he survived brain surgery and intense rehabilitation. He lived his life to the fullest as long as he could. If you knew Luis, you know he was one of the most hard-working, loyal, principled people you would ever meet. He befriended everyone and helped people in any possible way that he could. He lived his life as an example that you always do the right thing, even at the cost of personal sacrifices. Luis was also a veteran, having proudly served in the US Navy, and a 28-year employee of the Los Angeles School District, where he served most recently as a plant manager. Most important of all, Luis was a family man. He leaves behind his wife, Mari, and his two young sons, Jusue and Julyan, who were his pride and joy. Luis' lasting wish was for his wife and sons to take care of and protect each other, as he once did.

Luis was the primary earner for his family. His passing is a devastating loss both emotionally and financially. Both of his sons are college students who will now have to navigate life without him. All funds collected by this fundraiser will be given directly to his wife.  Funds will be used to support his sons college educations, as this was one of Luis' final wishes, and to pay for everyday expenses as his family figures out their new normal.
