THE OTHER SIDE OF UTICA
The Other Side of Utica, an innovative, independent, not-for-profit art center located at 2011 Genesee Street in Uptown Utica, with generous grant support from The Foundation and with hard work by our core volunteers, has during the last year transformed our intimate storefront room into one of the best gallery and concert spaces in the region. We believe that local arts and culture are key to rebuilding community. We are dedicated to living artists and to seeing that they are well-paid for their work, which we are able to in large part because we operate without the a paid administrative staff.
We are now faced with four remaining renovation/improvement projects for which we are seeking funding. These are as follows:
1) purchase and installation of a quiet, efficient, outdoor-mounted, ductless mini-split AC system
that would annually open up another three or four months of programming time: $5,595
2) construction of a small, two-section riser stage with hardwood flooring at the east end of the gallery, to provide a better view of the band: $1,200
3) re-construction of the window platform at the west end of the space to provide a flat stable surface for elevated seating and for three-dimensional art display while providing beneath the platform a large, lockable drawer for storage of our new sound equipment: $1,000
4) adding a lowered cross-bar track to the new lighting system on a separate circuit at the center of room to provide more appropriate stage lighting for performances at either end of the space: $800
