The Okinawa Artificial Reef Enhancement Site

Donation protected
I am a marine naturalist and teacher in Broward County, Florida.  I have worked in the dive industry here for ten years and helped the community understand and conserve the benefits of our beautiful marine habitats within South Florida.  The Okinawa is an artificial shipwreck that was deployed in 2018 as part of the Broward County Artificial Reef Program.  It is a perfect dive for beginner SCUBA divers and attracts a variety of fish species from the nearby reefs. Take a dive and you may find some Florida sea goddess nudibranchs around the hull, a moray eel lurking inside, barracuda or a pair of Goliath groupers swimming around. But the wreck sits alone in the sand and is too small for multiple groups of divers, or to spend a quality amount of bottom time diving around it. The superstructure of the wreck can b e enhanced by adding piles of culverts surrounding it, as well as piles of rock in a series of patch reefs.  This would greatly enhance the habitat to attract more wildlife and allow more interesting profile for divers to explore and follow around the site  The Broward County artificial reef program relies entirely on private donations to fund the creation of new sites, so the goal is to make this a community effort and reach out to all of those who enjoy using our coastal resources here in South Florida to make this happen. Any of your contributions will help and there is no small amount of donation as each will add up to go a long way to protect and conserve our reefs in the future.
