Evelyn Herrin worked as a teachers aide in rural Swain County, NC for 15+ years. At 10 years she decided to get a degree, working as an aid making 21,000 a year, going to school as she could, and in
May, 2018, received her Degree from Western Carolina University at age 61. On July 2 weeks after her graduatlon she was found to have cancer which had been undiagnosed. She had no children. Each child was her own. She loved especially special needs children less than 3rd grade. Within 5 weeks she died, the day before school started. The goal of this scholarship is to provide aid to a nontraditonal student. We hope her legacy is honored for years to come. Contributions will be donated to Swain County Schools for the purpose of her scholarship fund.
