This GoFundMe has been established for three purposes:
1. to fund a memorial tree and bench, location TBD. (~$1,000)
2. to provide educational grant money for Leah Miriam Baer and Zephaniah Levi Baer. Miriam--we know you loved rowing, and you were our rock, but we also know that Zeph, Dana, Leah & Zephe were your rock, and we want to acknowledge your time away from family and sacrifices with this direct gift. (~$2,500 and ~$2,500)
3. To collect funds for a memorial scholarship grant or traveling fund that will honor your legacy, exact form TBD, to be administered through the North West International Rowing Association, an American-Canadian (some would say Canadian-American) multi-club organization of rowers. (~$10,000)
We suspect that you would heartily argue about the idea of this collection effort, but we also believe that you would be pleased. Miriam, you, in yourself, are a rowing institution, greater than one boat, one team, one category of teams, one club, one region, or one country. We have not worked out all the details yet, and expect that we will be adjusting the numbers above, but our intention is to carry out this work with probity. And love.
What thou lovest well remains,
the rest is dross
What thou lov’st well shall not be reft from thee
What thou lov’st well is thy true heritage

Miriam left us earlier than she, and we, were expecting. Currently, her family is deeply engaged in the preparations for her memorial service and the logistical aftermath of the sudden passing of a loved one. Many have already been in contact wanting to know what they can do for Miriam, her family, and for Miriam's legacy. The outpouring of love for this contentious, beloved, atavistic woman is huge.
Miriam's positive influence and outreach were broader than any single individual could know. Her intrinsic love of independence was a key feature to her success as a coach and mentor.
Please feel free to direct your donation undesignated or to any of the above funds. The bench and tree are already fully funded through generous gifts from Miriam's friends at Landmark, though funds generated through this site may be used for additional installation expenses.
You are welcome to leave your donation anonymously. The administrators will see your message, and will contact individual donors privately when the time comes to finalize the memorial attributions.
Much is "to be determined" (TBD) at this time. The specifics of Miriam's Legacy Fund will be determined by pragmatic concerns of scale and how best to direct the funds to a sustainable project that will best reflect Miriam's spirit. NWIRA President Jill Cooper has tentatively approved this approach and will be conferring with the full board to consider how to best work with Miriam's family to approve an appropriate project dedicated to youth and inclusion in rowing.
Please pass this information on to all in Miriam's large circle of friends, admirers, and supporters.
Miriam's family has approved this project in her memory.
Please address questions or concerns to Kelly Jendro at <email@example.com>.
The GoFundMe platform is free. A standard transaction fee of 2.9% plus $0.30 per donation allows for credit card processing and safe transfer of funds. No tip is necessary or encouraged.
For those who prefer to donate by check, they should (11/12/2019) be made payable to "Zeph or Dana Baer." Use the memo line to direct the donation, and email <firstname.lastname@example.org> for the mailing address. In the coming days, an account will be set up for ease of process. Thank you for your patience as the details are worked through.
Any funds generated for this project will be handled by Kelly Jendro, with oversight by Katya Reimann and Zeph Baer. Zeph may be designating additional individuals to participate in this oversight.
