Hello everyone,
Thank you LA for all of the support that you have given black businesses for the past several weeks and to The Memphis Grill in particular. It has been a blessing. Every single community White, Black, Latino, Asian and everyone in between (no particular order) has given not only financial support, but also mental and spiritual support. I have never experienced anything like this in my life. I have truly been touched by the heartfelt support and words of encouragement that I have received during this difficult time.
Life is difficult for everyone that is lucky enough to be born. None of us are immune to the humane condition and life itself. It can be tough for us all no matter how rich, beautiful, smart or talented you are. Being African American adds a whole new level of difficulty to something that is already naturally challenging. I have experienced many of the extra difficulties of being African American throughout my life. I have been profiled while shopping, driving, walking and even just sitting. These experiences have been extremely stressful, especially when law enforcement was involved. I have never been violent or participated in criminal activity, yet I have been looked at and treated as if I have been. Not everyone behaves in this manner towards me, but many have. We all just want equality, that's all.
Opening a new restaurant is tough. It is one of the most challenging, and fulfilling businesses to open. Even with setbacks and difficulties, The Memphis Grill sold it's first plate on 4/20/2020. This was right in the middle of the dreadful Covid-19 pandemic, that has changed all of our lives around the globe. The pandemic added more anxiety and uncertainty to an already difficult business. The Memphis Grill pushed forward gaining one customer at a time, by making and serving hand crafted, scratch made food, using only high quality ingredients. The current menu is just a small sample of what The Memphis Grill will be offering, when life gets back to normal. There will be many more meat, sides and desert offerings, that will be more consistently available for all of our customers. You will not be disappointed! I love what I do and it will shine through in the food that will be served. I love what I do and I moved to LA to serve the community. I hope to keep doing so for many years to come.
Many people have asked what they can do to help this black owned business. Some people have suggested starting a GoFundMe campaign. I have never done this before in my life, but due too the current circumstances, I feel that it is necessary for me to do this to stay afloat and survive, serving great food until life gets back to normal for all of us.
The funds will cover expenses that The Memphis Grill has fallen behind on, specifically rent, utilities and other operating expenses. It will also go towards hiring and training staff to help make the restaurant operate more efficiently to better serve the community.Thank you for all your support LA! It will not be forgotten.
