The Marilyn Garvey PSP Fundraiser

Friends & Family:

My name is Zach Singer and I am the grandson of Marilyn Garvey, who sadly passed away from Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP) on June 14, 2018.  PSP is a very rare disease that affects roughly 20,000 Americans annually.  It's a progressive disease that deteriorates movement, balance, speech, vision, behavior and all around brain function. Currently, there is no effective treatment for PSP.

Marilyn was a wife, mother of four and grandmother of 12.  To her grandchildren, she was affectionately known as "GaGa."  GaGa was very active.  More active than many.  She loved going to the gym, socializing, playing cards, traveling and playing tennis and golf.  She even has a hole-in-one to her name.

GaGa loved her family. She was kind, generous and humble.  She attended church religiously, enjoyed talking politics (sometimes)  and was a voracious reader.   Whenever she had a moment of  downtime,  I would always find her with a book in  hand.  And when the day was done, she looked forward to happy hour which  always consisted of just one glass of Pinot Grigio filled with ice.

In 2010, when her balance started to wane, she started taking falls and breaking bones, the search for answers began.  It took 18 months and  numerous doctors to finally get a  diagnosis.  The disease stripped her of her ability to walk, see and ultimately speak.  But she never complained.  Ever. Not once.  She was an amazing woman and is missed deeply by many.

I am a rising senior at Chaminade High School on Long Island.  My friends and I have come together to raise awareness to this very rare and debilitating disease.   We are hoping to raise money to help find a cure for  PSP.    As a tribute to  GaGa,  my friends and I will climb Mount Marcy; the highest peak in New York State.

On Saturday, July 31st, Zach Singer, Brady Steinart and Benjamin Tesman will ASCEND the summit.  An elevation of 5,344 feet.  Our goal is to raise $10,688.  Two dollars for every foot climbed.

With your help, we can achieve this goal and contribute the much needed funds to further research.  Your contribution will go to the CurePSP Foundation.  Thank you for your support.
