Our sweet friend and neighbor Kely Maldonado just celebrated her 9th birthday in the Burn Unit at Lehigh Valley Hospital in Allentown after a Christmas Day house fire in Lancaster City left her with burns over 80% of her body three months ago. She has a long road of recovery ahead of her, but this little girl is a fighter, and we know that God has a bright future for her. During our visit with her last week, her family told me that of all the things destroyed in the fire, her violin survived; they are saving it in faith that she will one day play it again, despite the loss of several fingers on her right hand.
We are so grateful for the way friends, neighbors, co-workers, and the school community rallied around this family in the early months providing them with many gift cards for food, gas, and clothing. Our amazing church in Allentown has gone the extra mile in sharing the love of Jesus by supporting them with meals, friendship, and birthday parties, though they didn't even know them until I reached out a few months ago. Sadly, more financial help is needed to support the Maldonado's so they can focus on getting the rest and healing they all need. Nydia, the mother, quit her job and has barely left Kely's side since she was taken to Allentown. The cost of the hospital apartment she is staying in there is $35/ night.
Other expenses include:
- gas for Melbin (the father) to make the 3 hr round trip several times a week
-extra eating out for convenience
-replacement of furniture, clothing, and personal items
-medical bills insurance may not cover
-future therapy needs, including a therapy dog
As you can imagine, these things can quickly pile up, especially on a reduced income. Would you please consider supporting this family with your prayers, and finances?
