The Long family needs a Wheelchair van

Donation protected

Life, as we all know, is full of surprises. On November 15, 2017, my dear friend Eulie received a horrible surprise. She was diagnosed with ALS. This disease, also known as "Lou Gehrig’s Disease", takes away one's ability to talk, walk, and eventually, breath. Eulie's 'surprise' diagnosis came with an even worse expectation of "2 to 5 years".

This disease didn't show itself suddenly.  She first experienced weakness in her arms and legs, then slurred speech for quite a while.  It was confusing, and the rude and embarrassing looks and comments from strangers who believed she'd been drinking made the symptoms even less bearable.  Today,  Eulie depends largely on her cell phone to speak the words and sentences which go misunderstood. She depends on her children and her husband for basic self-care. Her mother and sister are invaluable, as they are a constant and necessary support to her and the family. They both cook, clean, take physical care of her, and they transport her and the children while her husband Sheldon is working extra jobs to cover expenses. This is becoming much more difficult in the family car. Eulie cannot climb into a car and she requires her wheelchair. Getting her in and out of a car is dangerous for both her and the person assisting.

Still, Eulie remains mentally and emotionally strong.  She is beautiful and just as funny and smart as ever. She smiles and does her best to love and support her kids. Eulie is trying to ensure that this disease does not take her freedom to enjoy this crucial time with family and friends.

Eulie Long is in need a wheelchair van to continue her path to winning her freedom from this disease. A van is expensive, and although this request is a lot, it's just a small portion of the total cost. The Long family needs our help, so lets do what we can. Let's do what we should. Let's help Eulie to get to the kid's school conferences, to family activities, and ofcourse, to her many necessary medical appointments.

If you have additional questions about the Long family, please ask me. I have lots to share about this family, and how deserving they are.

Let's try to make this a New Year 2020 goal.
