NewYear has brought a health challenge for this amazing Gardnerville, Nevada family.
In March 2018, Kylee was diagnosed with MOG-Ab which is a rare neuroauto-immune disease that causes damage to the optic nerve from high levels of inflammation resulting in vision loss and risk of cranial, spinal and brain stem injury. In 2018 and 2019, Kylee endured 19 1/2 months of high dose daily steroids, monthly infusions of IVIG antibodies (which some of you may remember Kylee rockin’ her IV at school) and numerous blood draws, MRI’s and Dr visits.
Now those of you who know Kylee are very blessed to know her! Kylee is a fun loving, kind hearted, prayer warrior havin’ power athlete that dominates in basketball, soccer, volleyball and everything else she puts her heart into!
We have said our prayers that this would be a one time occurrence for Kylee because isolated cases are possible. Unfortunately 6 weeks to the day of her taking her last steroid in November 2019, Kylee experienced a relapse over the holidays.
Kylee started treatment again on Thursday, January 2, 2020 and has received IV steroid infusions, has started high dose oral steroids and will start IVIG treatments ASAP.
On a side note, IVIG antibody treatment is created from plasma received through plasma donations. There is a critical shortage of IVIG due to low plasma supplies so please consider being a plasma donor. IVIG treats many illnesses and cannot be reproduced synthetically. You are compensated for the time it takes to donate (2 to 3 hours) and you can save lives!
We hope that you and your families and friends will embrace Kylee and her family during this difficult time. Our goal is to offset the costs of the medical bills associated with her care so they can breathe easy and put their attention to Kylee’s treatments and recovery.
