The Lanier Family Hurricane Irma

My childhood friend of over 35 years, Kelley Lanier, her wife Niki and their 10-year-old son Nash had to evacuate Key West due to hurricane Irma, just like all the residents there. As we all know, they are displaced until further notice. Unfortunately, they are unable to get into the Keys to even assess the damage they have. As of now, all they know by those that chose not to evacuate, is that it is a complete disaster area. They also know they still have a roof and walls by satellite images, but have no clue of whether their home is habitable or not. There definitely is expected to be water damage and the longer the house sits increases the chances for poisonous mold to grow. The damages will take months to repair. Fortunately, Kelley has had the privilege of being an assistant principal at a school in Key West for several years and holds her students and co-workers near and dear to her heart. Kelley grew up in the Palm Beach County area and is alumni of Santaluces High School in Lantana, FL. She also devoted many years to the Palm Beach County School District before moving to Key West. Their son also attends the school Kelley is employed at and is concerned not only for himself. He is also anxious for his friends, teachers and schoolmates. The schools are closed indefinitely in the area. This also adds to the financial insecurity they are faced with. Through Kelley, I’ve been blessed to have Niki as a friend and she is an amazing person. She is selfless and would help anyone in a time of need just like Kelley would. Unfortunately, Niki was employed in the tourism industry and has been informed that she no longer has a place of work to return and provide the needed support to their family that they’ve relied upon. Any support would be gladly appreciated and any funds not used will go directly to those in their community in desperate need.
