Jambo! (most common Swahili greeting you hear in Kenya)

Following our birthday collection in Nov '19 (see original post below) we continue to support, on a regular basis, the school in Mombasa's slums. Family and friends joined in and positive changes are happening (see pictures below). Most importantly, all children are now having 2 meals a day, while in the past (on a good day!) they could afford to have only one. About 70% of the children (orphans) who live at the school no longer sleep on the concrete floor. In December they received comfy mattresses and in June '20 they got their very first bed (a bunk bed that sleeps 4 children). The children swap every night so that all can experience the privilege of sleeping on a bed. The school also got desks for everyone so the children no longer eat or study on the floor. We thank everyone who supports the school, either through this platform or directly through us.

Asante Sana (thanks a lot in Swahili)! and let's cultivate compassion together <3 for "Happy is he who sets the ease of others above his own" - Sa'adi

----------------------------------------------

There is a school in a small village in Kenya, with 1 dedicated teacher and 40 kind and most eager-to-learn kids who have next to no supplies, often come to school starving, or stay at home until their parents can pay the fees.

A friend of ours visited the school a few years ago and found it in an appalling state. Since then she is in direct contact with the teacher and supports the school in paying the rent, getting books, classroom furniture, some toys, an iPad, and improving the learning environment by painting the building, fixing windows, etc. The teacher always sends back reports, pictures and receipts of everything she buys with the donations so that we can see how the help, and every single cent, reaches the school and the children.

Why?

Because we recognise the importance of equal education opportunities for society. Because those kids are so keen on learning but lack the means. Because planting a flower in the yard of people who are going to water it is an effort well spent <3

Any amount can make a difference and we thank you from the bottom of our hearts for helping the school and its community <3

With great thanks and huge love <3

Update: As of November 19 we have reached the original goal and decided to increase it and continue collecting money to help another, even more needy, school in the slums of Mombasa (Kenya). The funds will be divided equally and transferred to schools in Ukunda and Mombasa via Western Union. The schools will provide receipts (when possible) and short reports with pictures of what the donations were spent on.
