The Joy of Sewing Project

We are raising funds to purchase a used 15 passenger (or larger) van/bus for “Fundacion Nueva Alegria” in the Dominican Republic. We are personally attached to this organization financially and emotionally as a family and company (Village Tavern & Grill) to help raise the self-esteem of pre-teen and teenage girls in the DR. The bus will be used to help transport the girls to and from events and projects. This is a wonderful organization operated by a dear family friend. We have set a hefty goal of 10,000.00. We will need prayers and a lot of help from our family, friends…and friends of friends to reach our goal. Please feel free to visit the Fundacion Nueva Alegria Facebook page. We realize that we are all bombarded with worthy causes and fundraisers everyday but, we can assure you this project will change the lives of the young ladies involved in the project. The purpose of The Joy of Sewing Project is to go into vulnerable communities and teach at-risk teenage girls a skill that allows them to generate income for themselves and their families. With the Dominican Republic having a high incidence of teenage pregnancies, we wanted to work in the communities through these types of projects and programs. In the process, we also teach girls spiritual concepts that enable them to see themselves through His eyes. The logo is based on Psalm 147:4-5: He determines the number of stars and calls them each by name. Great is our Lord and mighty in power. We wanted it to serve as a reminder that God created and named the stars, that He wants them to reach for the stars in the development of their lives and, finally, that to Him they were more important and beautiful than those stars! Not only that, but that He knew each one of them by name! The project is funded by Fundacion Nueva Alegria and generous people like you. Join us in continuing to transform the lives of these young girls.
