I suffered in silence for 20 years with bulimia nervosa. Suffering day in, day out with the cruel and taunting thoughts in my head. I hated myself. I hated the way I looked. I thought I was stupid and irrelevant. It effected every aspect of my life because I had no self worth. I was afraid to get the help I needed because I feared what people thought of me.
I have no back teeth left from stomach acid chipping them away over the years. I was 32 years old before I finally reached out for real help. What I came to understand was that there was the treatment available (especially for someone my age) was very poor. The butterfly foundation was a great support.. but aside from that.. I didn't believe anything else worked for me.
I want to raise more awareness to this debilitating mental illness. Bulimia, anorexia, binge eating disorder and body dysmorphia.I want to break the stigma that it's just about image.
The statistics are terrifying for those who suffer with one of these conditions who choose to tak their own lives.
So I've decided to walk to Sydney from the Gold Coast on May 3rd 2018. I hope to have people who may be suffering, or know someone who suffers from an eating disorder, ,come and sign my shirt "I am beautiful from the inside out" and signs it. I am doing this journey solo! So I am going to need your support! I'm looking for people to sponsor stops for me so I have somewhere to rest my head each night. I am looking to raise just a little money to cover the cost of being away from work for 3-4 weeks and still needing to pay my rent at home. But mostly I am raising the money to donate to the butterfly foundation who helped me find my strength and recover.
