The Hidden Dream Fund

America has a broken immigration system that is ripping apart and affecting generations of families. From undocumented immigrants, refugees, asylees, to visa workers, dependent visa holders...the entire system is broken.

From the team members personal experience as a H4 visa children, we know what it feels like to have every opportunity feel unattainable due to the lack of a piece of paper. We know what it feels like to not see family for months/years/decades at a time due to visa issues. We know what it feels like to have to self deport yourself and put your entire education and future on hold.

All because of the lack of a piece of paper.

That is why we wanted to start a scholarship to help others like us.

“The Hidden Dream Fund” aims to raise scholarship funds specifically for dependent visa children. Children on H4, L2, B2, F2, R2 visas etc. face many challenges including not being able to obtain work permits, SSNs, state IDs, fighting for instate tuition, no access to federal aid etc.

We know $1000 isn't a lot of money but in our inaugural year we want to try our best to hit this goal and at least make a small impact. We would love to raise more money than 1K.

The most gut-wrenching issue we face of all, is every dependent visa child is at risk of deportation at the age of 21 due to aging out of the immigration system. And, currently the wait time for a H4 dependent child to get a green card is 195 years...which means it is impossible.

Children who have been brought to this country as young as infants are unable to establish life in the one place they have come to call home. Due to lack of awareness and research the true numbers of dependent visa dreamer children is unknown and is estimated to be in the 100's of thousands- there are about an estimated 60,000 H4 dreamers themselves at guaranteed risk of aging out.

It is unfortunate that this niche group children’s stories have gone unnoticed by mainstream media and politicians as they have not been included in any significant talks for legislation to help them on a pathway to citizenship.

2020 has been an especially difficult year for many dependent visa children. Most recently, due to the July 22nd EO proclamation, many children have been separated from their Visa worker parents and if their parents were laid off, they must leave the country. The EO has also lead to the ripping apart of mixed status families in which the younger siblings are citizens.

We hope “The Hidden Dreamer” fund will shed more light on the issues faced by dependent visa children and will help assist a few of them on their journey to college. Any donation means so much to the team and future recipients of the scholarship.

Thank you everyone for all the help and kind generosity.

Sincerely,

The founding team of “The Hidden Dream” & H 4 Hope

EDIT #1

8/5/2020: Thank you so so much to everyone who has donated so far! We reached out initial goal of $1000 in just 4 days. We plan on incrementally increasing the fundraising goal to help us give out more scholarships this year.

Since we passed our initial goal, we are now on track to give out multiple scholarships this year!!! A small portion will be used to help subsidize 501 c 3 filing fees to prepare expanding the fund for next year and give us the ability to thank our donors with tax refund forms!
