“The Great Recession” Podcast Miniseries Event

Donation protected
Hello. I’m J. Shawn Durham. You may know me from my stints as a pitchman from Gillette or, recently, my spot for the Boy Scouts of America. But I’m most known as the star of the Marvel Comics action series “Luke Cage.”

I’m here to tell you about my latest project,  the political comedy/satire miniseries for podcast titled, “The Great Recession (Or, “How Democracy Broke Its Ass Through A Comedy of Errors”). It’s a audio play with all the bells and whistles of a miniseries, with one exception: It’s actually well-scripted, well-acted and well-produced.  The Great Recession will be recorded at DC’s Imagination Studios this month, and split up into six wild and raucous podcast episodes to be released twice a week, in October, leading up to the November elections. The Great Recession has already been praised by critics as a cross between Mel Brooks’ “Blazing Saddles” and Stanley Kubrick’s “Dr. Strangelove.” Which critics heaped this praise on our project, you ask?

Just go with it...

About “The Great Recession, (Or, "How Democracy Broke Its Ass Through A Comedy Of Errors") (Political Comedy/Satire)

Attention-craving billionaire Richard J. Spade, a man known for “speaking first and thinking later” launches a bid for the U.S. presidency and plays to Americans’ lowest and most base impulses by being crude, racist, sexist and boorish. He wins the office. What happens next is The Great Recession. The Recession, which is usually used to describe economic downturns, will define the downturn and reversal of progressive society. Can our heroes prevent the decline of America while enduring scores of plot twists, turns and (more importantly) jokes? You’ll have to tune in where all great podcasts are available starting October 12.

But we need your help. We are in a pandemic, and theater has been shuttered. Pleased contribute to our GoFundMe campaign to finance this ambitious and inventive project. And remember to vote in November.
