We are The Goods: Sarah King, Lara Michell, and Little Sue, out of Portland, Oregon. Individually, we are celebrated veterans of the Portland roots-rock/pop/Americana scene. Together, we weld our years of experience and talents into an entirely new entity- a fire-breathing, harmonic unity of voice and heart. After a year of writing and performing, we are excited and ready to record our first full-length album, and we need your help to do it. Please join us on our adventure, share in our story, and take satisfaction that we could not have done it without YOU. Sarah King sings lead vocal and plays rhythm guitar. Sarah is among the most soulful and powerful vocalists in Portland, which is really saying something, considering the bounty of glorious voices we are blessed with in our beloved city. In addition to her transportive vocal ability, Sarah King is also an accomplished song-writer. The main lyricist for The Goods, she has no time for chit-chat; her words run a deep conversation between her demons and desires. Her brave, revealing songs tell of failures and triumphs, which she somehow miraculously turns into one in the same. She lives to share this, to connect with you so you feel these stories are your very own, transformed into art. And with her passionate delivery of impeccable melodies and phrasing, she can do anything.
Lara Michell is on harmony and lead guitar. Lara is a skillful rhythm guitarist, though she is best-known for her unique style of finger-picking that haunts many of the deliciously spooky songs she has written over the years, and now graces the work of The Goods. She often provides the musical muse for Sarah's lyrics: sometimes the whole vehicle, sometimes part of the frame. Lara Michell's spot-on harmony, from her smokey-alto to her breathy-angel soprano, is never over-stated, always the consummate support. She is the backbone of The Goods.
Little Sue (Susannah Weaver) is on harmony and mandolin. More than just the icing-on-the-cake, Sue's adornments, both in harmony and on mandolin, become integral parts of these songs, impossible to extricate from your mind's ear upon reflection. With her sometimes anguished, keening high harmonies, the perfect counterpoint to Sarah's deep melody and Lara's peanut-buttery goodness, Sue can raise the feeling of a song to an almost uncomfortable immediacy. Her penchant for pop in providing arrangements, catchy mandolin hooks, and Sue's intrinsic love of harmony, makes this song-writing, ass-kicking trio whole.
We are The Goods: proving the old adage, the sum is greater than its parts. That's math, bitches!
We are thrilled to be recording with none other than Gregg Williams (Dandy Warhols, Blitzen Trapper), local evil genius, in his studio, The Trench.
The funds we raise will go mainly to cover studio/recording time, mastering, CD/vinyl reproduction and art.
