The Gift of Sight for Chloe

Hi all..most of you know that for the past ten years I have been involved with rescuing and fostering Westies. The Westies that have remained in our home have medical needs that most adopters neither have the time nor financial means to care for properly. We have never accepted money from rescues when fostering or caring for these pups but considered it to be our joy and privilege to be able to help these animals without having the various, cash strapped rescues reimburse our expenses.  Rescues rely on donations to properly care for the many incoming animals to prepare them for adoption.  Up until now we have been able to absorb the costs ourselves but now I have decided to start a GOFUNDME page for Chloe. Any proceeds collected from this page that exceed the amount required for Chloe’s surgery and aftercare will be donated to Sunshine State Westie Rescue a 501(c)3 non profit organization (with their permission and knowledge of this page).

Chloe’s story..our girl Chloe was a Craig’s list rescue and came to us at the age of 2. She has been with us for 8 years and has overcome many issues over the years. Arthritis in both back legs plus chronic skin, ear and bladder infections.  All of these recurring and chronic conditions have been treated and are managed with medications to the best of our ability .

Three years ago Chloe was diagnosed with diabetes which is controlled with insulin injections twice a day. The diabetes has caused cataracts to form  covering 90% of vision in both eyes. Unfortunately, tests revealed that her left eye has a detached retina and is inoperable. 

 We have decided after consulting specialist, Dr. Susan Carastro of Animal Eye Specialty Clinic, in West Palm Beach, Florida, to go forward and perform cataract surgery on her one operable eye. We have scheduled her surgery date for March 26, 2018.

We are very encouraged to know that this procedure has a 92% success rate with immediate improvement of vision. Chloe is a fantastic  girl who has continued to fight her ailments while remaining a happy go lucky dog .   Though the surgery will not give her perfect vision it will allow her a better quality of life for the remainder of her years which we expect to be many!

The expenses incurred by us so far for tests and preoperative lab work has been $650. The quote for the surgery, medications and aftercare is approximately $3000.
