Raw honesty right off the bat: when I was younger, I made some big financial mistakes. All the debt accrued during my marriage was under my name, and when we divorced, I had very, very little to live on. I had to delve into debt even further to make ends meet. I had veterinary bills and medical out of pocket bills, and yes, I spent more than I should have on clothes and general things I needed (and wanted) to soothe my wounds.
It's been a few years, and I struggle every month to do my part and pay those bills. I manage it, but it leaves me with roughly $90 to live on for the whole month—food, office necessities for writing, freaking lightbulbs. There are times where I just skip meals because my partner is tapped out from supporting both of us.
Recently, some information has come to light that puts my financial situation in more immediate jeopardy. I can't go into details (it affects more than just me and is likely to result in consequences I can't handle) but in order to make it, start my credit all over again, and finally extricate from this emergency looming, I need help raising lawyer fees to do it.
Every dime—every single penny—is going to pay my lawyer. The sooner that fee is paid off, the sooner I file. It will take roughly 3 months from filing to go into effect, and I can only hope and pray to whatever is listening that the financial event horizon I'm sensing doesn't show up sooner.
But once this is all done, that's it. I will have no need to go into debt again: I have medical insurance finally, I have insurance for my service dog. I will have enough money freed per month to actually pay for necessities.
I know this sounds very selfish. I know the general idea is "pay for your mistakes". All I can say is: I'm sorry to ask for this help. All I can do is rely on the kindness of people who may be tired of these things.
If I can raise this, this will be my last fundraiser. This will cut the last of my ties to things I need to be freed from. Bankruptcy will put me in a place of strength, independence, and control of my own future.
Will you help? Will you share?
I can't thank you enough for all you have done for me. Just one little push more, and I'll be able to pay these things forward. Finally.
