The West Louisville Chess Club was founded in May 2016. Our mission statement is the intellectual empowerment and the character development of Louisville youth through chess education. Our vision is to become the most successful urban chess program in the Commonwealth of Kentucky. Chess is a sport, an individual sport and a team sport. Our club members are chess athletes. Our chess program's accomplishments include (not limited to)...Championship 1st Place Team, West Louisville Chess League, 2017/2018, a club member winning a place trophy at the Queen City Classic in 2017, 4 club members winning place trophies at the 2018 Queen City Classic (regional tournament held in Cincinnati, Ohio) and our chess program winning a FIRST PLACE TEAM TROPHY (Grades 4-6, under 800, rated) at the Queen City Classic in March 2018.
The West Louisville Chess Club has received recognition from the Louisville Metro Council, David James, the Louisville Metro Council President, Governor Matt Bevin, public officials Reginald Meeks, Jerry Miller, Gerald Neal, James Peden, Angela Meet, Barbara Sexton Smith, Kentucky State Senator Gerald Neal and others!
Our last chess club meeting of the year was held on December 15 at the Louisville Urban League. We had a great time! We also made plans on how we are going to work on bringing back to Louisville TWO TEAM TROPHIES from this regional tournament. That is our team goal...two team trophies!
