The Cain Memorial Fund

(A letter from our mother, a woman of faith, on how to honor her memory and carry her spirit forward after her passing.)
To my cherished family, friends, and acquaintances,
I want to thank you for the support and care you’ve given me over my life. Please know that your love is deeply felt.
After much prayer and consideration, I have decided to establish the Cain Memorial Fund for Expanded Christian Education at the First Presbyterian Church of Lansdowne.
The goals of this fund will be:
1. To enhance children’s ministry within the community of Lansdowne by providing vacation Bible school, new curriculums, drama, and, of course, music. These programs should be geared towards the children of Lansdowne and all the surrounding communities.
2. To hold Sunday school classes outside in nature—the park, foot trails, river walks—where God’s awesome beauty and power are most evident.
3. To inspire our youth group to stay curious and compassionate by funding trips, special cultural events, and other forums that will help children form their first spiritual relationships with each other.
4. To expand the adult ministry through overnight or weekend retreats, book groups developed by the Christian Education Director, and opportunities to learn about each other’s cultures and backgrounds through food, spiritual sharing, and song.
I plan to seed this fund with $5,000 and I will add to this seed money as I see support from you flowing in. Of those who can contribute, I ask you to consider either a one-time, tax-deductible donation or an ongoing (monthly, weekly, annual) contribution.
Please honor me and continue my legacy by donating to this fund. It will be underwritten not only by your generosity, but by your support for what I believe in: we are in God’s hands, we are loved, and we must trust.
