The Byerley Family

Hi, we are fundraising for Sean, Rae-Lynne, Weston and Kolton while they navigate through this challenging time.

 

On May 5th Kolton was taken to the Alberta Children's Hospital after experiencing headaches and was diagnosed with a brain tumour. The next day he was in a 10-hour surgery to remove the tumour. Since then, a partial pathology has been completed on the removed tumour, which is sadly cancerous. A treatment plan is being developed, but the family is now in for the long haul.
Kolton is an amazing 13-year-old who loves camping, baseball, and reading, he also loves to cook and usually is making cakes from scratch just for fun. He loves spending time with his friends and older brother Weston. Kolton truly is everything you'd expect from a 13-year-old with a love for life and the ability to make anyone laugh. He has the patience of a saint when he's playing with his younger cousins and loves showing them how to make things and is always willing to hear them out even when he knows they are breaking the rules. Just like he used to when he was little.

 

In 2021 Sean and Rae realized a lifelong dream of theirs by opening an independent bookstore (Yooneek Books; Okotoks, AB). This dream has become both their full-time jobs and only source of income. During the last weeks, family members have stepped in to help run the store to keep it open and help relieve this stress from them as they navigate this situation. With Kolton's diagnosis and treatment plan in development, we would like to be able to provide their family with financial assistance so they can take the time they need to be with their son at the hospital and fully be present in his treatment and recovery. The last thing they need to be thinking of or worrying about at this time is paying bills and covering other expenses.
