Larry Callies is a professional cowboy from Beasley Texas. Born in 1952; Larry started to ride steers professionally at the age of 12 and won his first Rodeo at the Round Up in Simonton Texas at the age of 15.

Larry was the second black cowboy in Texas to go to the state finals in 1971. His cousin Tex WIlliams was the first to make it to the state finals and won the state finals.

Larry worked for the Post Office in Sugar Land Texas for 34 years while continuing to rodeo as well as persuing a career in singing.  Larry sang for 20 years and at one time was managed by George Strait's manager. He opened for Travis Tritt, Collin Ray, Emilio Navaria and Selena. Played for many dignataries such as Bob Lanier, Lee Brown, Kathy Whittmier, Ann Richards as well as George Bush Sr. John Wayne's daughter, Marsha Wayne, asked Larry and his band to perform at a private party in River Oaks.

In 2011 a student drawing of Larry Callies brought in over $1 million dollars at the Houston Live Stock Show and Rodeo.  The drawing was sold for $205,000 and over 3,200 copies were sold for $300 a piece. Larry did not receive one penny!!

Today Larry continues to team rope and operates his own saddle repair shop in Rosenberg Texas on Hwy 36. He still performs with his band Larry Callies and the Bronco Band.

His passion for God, his family history and his experience in the rodeo circuits has inspired him to share his amazing story of his faith, family history and the Cowboy. It has been his dream to bring to you; The Black Cowboy Museum.

Larry has secured a location in Rosenberg Texas at Hwy 36 and 90 ( 1803 Hwy 90, Rosenberg Texas). The location is currently being remodel and he expects to open June 19th, 2017.

There are a couple phases of the concept. The first phase is the Museum. The second phase is to construct a facility a few miles down the road from Rosenberg in Kendelton for live interactions to experience the real life of a Cowboy in the 1800s such as working cattle, dipping cattle and interacting with the Cowboys.

Rosenberg is in the the suburbs of Houston, Texas. Rosenberg is historically known as an agricultural hub. The land in Rosenberg is being acquired and developed with houses and businesses to the horizon. Rosenberg is growing so fast and we risk loosing our heritage and culture. Please support Larry Callies efforts to preserve our heritage and culture.
