The Bicycle Bakery: Keep the Dough Rolling!

Dear new, old and yet to be made friends of the Bicycle Bakery,

The Bicycle Bakery has been a part of your community in Tunbridge Wells for over 10 years. We’ve been through a lot together; from being one of the only local shops to remain open throughout the Covid pandemic to being a home from home for you whatever the weather and whatever your circumstance. Our tasty bread, pastries and sandwiches as well as exemplary coffees were what brought everyone together. And that bringing people together and providing them with simple joy through the medium of good, honest food was the reason I started the bakery in the first place. I’ve been so grateful for everyone’s support in making the Bicycle Bakery the success it has been.

It was however with great sadness that I had to shut our doors in April due to personal circumstances. Among other things, I was diagnosed with arthritis in both hands a few years ago and for a long time I didn’t want the daily pain to affect my work; I couldn’t because I knew how much the bakery meant for those I employed but also for the community we served. But the pain had gotten unbearable in recent months that I had to make the decision to close. I’m sorry that I let the community down by not being able to go on.

But I don’t want the Bicycle Bakery’s story to end here. That’s not in my nature. I want us to come back. We want to be part of your community once more. I’m excited to share our plans to reopen the Bicycle Bakery and with your support, we're determined to reignite our ovens, get Frank bubbling, and keep the spirit of The Bicycle Bakery alive and continue serving up smiles and happy memories.

Your contributions to this GoFundMe campaign will not only help us reopen our doors stronger than ever but in the intervening period ensure that we can keep things running until we’re ready to reopen; from covering rent and utility bills to supporting the training of our new team (including new bakers).
