The Andre Family

On the evening of Tuesday, July 28th, four members of the Andre family were traveling to Colorado Springs on what was supposed to be a fun summer getaway. With just an hour left of the drive, the family vehicle was struck by an oncoming driver who fell asleep at the wheel. Pat, the dad and the driver of the vehicle, did everything he could to keep his kids safe in his final moments. Unfortunately, Pat did not survive the crash.
Jack, Sarah, and Nick (the three youngest Andre children) were taken to a nearby hospital where they were met by family friends. Joel (mom) and the two oldest Andre children (Allison and Grey) were notified in Saint Louis. They were able to catch a flight to Colorado the next morning, July 29th, to be with the kids.
Nick, 17, and Sarah, 20, suffered minor injuries. Both have been released from the hospital.
Jack, 22, is a fighter and has a long battle ahead of him. He suffered numerous injuries in both legs, including a broken fibula, tibia, and femur as well as damaged his femoral artery. Jack was taken into surgery the night of the accident to stabilize his legs and fix the artery. A second surgery was scheduled for tonight to work on his broken femur. In addition, he broke his orbital bone around his eye and the hard palate in his mouth. Joel and some of the Andre siblings were able to see Jack today. While he is currently on a ventilator to help with the healing process, he was able to write notes to his family and squeeze their hands. The doctor said Jack's prognosis is good, but that he will have a very long recovery. As we all know, Jack is so strong!
Please keep the Andre family in your thoughts and prayers as they figure out their new normal. Their faith is strong and they are surrounded by a community that loves them so much. Pat's charisma and joy-filled spirit were loved by so many. He loved nothing more than being with his family and is now a guardian angel watching over them from above.
The road ahead is unknown. As of now, the Andre family will be in Colorado until Jack is strong enough to come home. The family is staying in a nearby hotel so they can be close to Jack in the hospital. Once the family arrives back in Saint Louis, a celebration of life will be planned for Pat.
