The Academy of Martial Arts Pandemic Relief Fund

This is hard to write, but it's become necessary.
The Academy has been a staple of the community in and around Manchester, CT for over 25 years. And in that time, 1000’s of students have passed through the Academy’s doors. Some for short periods, some for the entire 25 years we’ve been in business. It’s my hope that all who have crossed our threshold have benefited from what we teach. Our goal has always been to help Adults and kids enrich themselves and reach their full potential.
Unfortunately, nine months into this pandemic, with the necessary social shutdowns and more, we are not making ends meet and we find ourselves in the very real position of possibly needing to shut our doors. We’ve taken advantage of government relief programs and continue to offer both in-person and online classes. Unfortunately in the age of COVID, it’s not enough. Our goal is to keep the doors open until society is in a safer position to ‘return to normal’.
I expect things to turn around in the Fall, hopefully no later than September of 2021. The trick will be to remain operating until then. The general population can expect to get the vaccines toward the end of Spring, beginning of Summer. So it’ll be slow going until the start of the new school year. If we are to survive, we have decided we must reach out to the community. I have reluctantly decided to do a Go Fund Me campaign to ensure the Academy’s survival until that point.
I have set the amount of the campaign at what I think we will need to get us to the Fall. The donations will go toward rent, utilities, and if available, payroll. We haven’t taken a salary since March and we don’t plan on it until the school is supporting itself financially. But we do have other employees we need to support and financial obligations to meet. All donations will go straight to work, keeping our mission and our studio alive and serving the community.
We know that we are not alone in being affected by the Pandemic. We are grateful to anyone who can contribute what they can. Every dollar makes a difference! There are several other ways you can support the Academy if you don’t have the means to do so financially. I would ask that you share this post with others on your Facebook & Instagram accounts or by emailing anyone on your email lists. The farther the word spreads, the better the result.
