Kim’s 2nd Chance

Hi my name is Nigel Richardson, founder of Secret Hamper, a business I launched in 2016 after being inspired by a random act of kindness.

We're on a mission to encourage others to pay it forward with a random act of kindness and spread joy one hamper at a time.

In 2018 we launched a not for profit hamper campaign to help businesses and individuals show their appreciation for the unsung heroes of our NHS.

The concept was simple, invite businesses to 'sponsor' a hamper for £70 and once we had 70 hampers sponsored we would deliver them to a designated hospital where over 3500 locally sourced treats would be shared amongst staff at all levels to help raise morale and show those that care for others, we care.

In between 2018-2020 we brought hundreds of businesses and individuals together to deliver over 750 hampers, 40,000 treats to thousands of NHS staff to 10 hospitals around the UK.

This year sees the 75th Anniversary of our NHS and we thought staff working within our healthcare system could appreciate some love now more than ever.

We recently heard of a brave lady who developed sepsis after developing a UTI. Sadly the sepsis was aggressive and as a result, Kim had to have all 4 limbs amputated. Kim would like to use our #ThankYouNHS hamper campaign to not only thank staff at Leeds General Infirmary, but, to help raise awareness for Sepsis.

These words are from Kim

"My reason for nominating Leeds General Infirmary is because they're going to be performing a life changing hand transplant on me hopefully in the near future, when a suitable match is found.
I developed sepsis from a UTI and had to have all 4 limbs amputated. I now work tirelessly every day to raise awareness of sepsis, giving talks and warning everyone about the serious dangers of sepsis.

If you don't know the symptoms of sepsis please learn them because everyone can develop sepsis from any infection!

Trust your gut instinct if you feel extremely unwell, don't be fobbed off, ask "Could it be Sepsis?"

Slurred speech or confusion, extreme shivering or muscle pain, passing no urine in a day, sever breathlessness, if you feel like you're going to die, skin mottled or discoloured, are all warning signs.

Please help Kim raise awareness of this serious and potentially life threatening condition, whilst selflessly bringing a little cheer to the unsung heroes of our NHS.

We aim to deliver 75 hampers to both Leeds General and Milton Keynes hospital but we can only do it with your help. Thank you
