Help Ariana Get Started as a Tentmaker Missionary
Donation protected
Hello, It’s Ariana! I just graduated from college with a B.A. in Psychology and a minor in Coaching Methods. For several years, I wanted to become a Sport Psychologist; however, during my senior year in college (2019) I became more passionate about coaching (specifically strength and conditioning coaching). I was now set on becoming a strength coach, and I even got to intern under the strength coaches at UC Davis for about 5 months before covid shut everything down in March. I am still very passionate about coaching, very grateful for the opportunity to work with the coaches and student athletes, and I often reminisce about my time as an intern. With that said, my life is taking a new unexpected direction; I feel led to become a tentmaker missionary and teach English abroad! My goal with teaching English abroad is to support myself as a missionary. I will be forming connections with people, getting to know the local community, and sharing the gospel. I have a heart for Spain, Japan (which I hope to return to), and Europe at large.
When I first made the decision to get certified to teach abroad, I thought I was only going to be gone for a month since the course I was going to sign up for was 4 weeks long; however, during the last week of August I found out that the only way for me to enter Spain (due to covid restrictions) is to get a student visa. The language center that I am going to be attending offers a course that comes with a student visa, but the course is 1 year in duration as opposed to a month; it also costs twice as much. I was not prepared for this. After A LOT of prayer, confirmation came in many ways. God answered, and I will be leaving to Spain for a year on November 19. My heart is to always be in God’s will no matter how daunting it may feel.
With the increase from a month to a year, the startup costs are a little different and of course a little greater. On the low end, I need to raise $10,000. Costs include (TEFL certification in-person course, accommodation during the 4 week course, food, transportation, luggage, visa costs, deposit and startup costs for accommodation for the remaining 11 months - this will be my biggest expense). The in-person course will take place in Barcelona, Spain. In faith, I already purchased my flight ticket back in June. I have been working a part-time job since July with the intention of raising funds as well, but I still need so much help.
Your partnership and support will mean the world to me. I am writing this update on September 1st. I have 2 and a half months to leave everything ready here in the states and prepare for the next year which is full of the unknown.
I am overcome with emotions: expectancy, sadness, faith, trust, excitement, nervousness, joy, peace, gratefulness, etc. I feel like I am saying goodbye everyday. I am already missing my family and my friends, but I know where I need to go. This is my next step. I know that the Lord has gone before me, so I am not afraid.
You can also donate using check, cash, or Venmo @ArianaV23. Please reach out if you have any questions.
Thank you to everyone who has already donated or reached out, wow I am so in awe of your support, and I am so grateful. Thank you so much!
Kindly,
Ariana Vega
