Telethon XXII

Greetings to you from the Garden City High School Oral Communication Department! We would like to invite you to participate in a unique opportunity. As you are well aware, effective communication skills are vital to success in today’s society. The GCHS broadcasting, debate, and forensics programs are committed to helping this community’s students learn to use those communication skills effectively, but in order to do that, we need your help.

We are proud to announce the 22nd annual GCHS Telethon. Telethon 22 will be broadcast on the Buffalo Broadcasting System (BBS-TV Channel 21) as well as simulcast on KBFZ 101.7FM and streamed on the Internet on Tuesday, March 27th from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. The six-hour telecast will showcase the talents of students involved in the GCHS broadcasting, debate, and forensics programs. Included in the show will be debate rounds, acting events, and news reports. All activities in the show will be student written, performed, or produced.

The Telethon exists not only as a showcase for the talents and skills of the students in these programs, but also as a fundraiser for these programs to use for equipment and travel. Past telethons have allowed the programs involved to buy broadcast quality cameras, copy machines, and increased competition opportunities. This is where you come into the picture...the telethon makes money by gathering sponsorships from businesses and individuals who believe that communication is important. We are proud to offer a fund-raiser that furthers the education of the students involved while, at the same time, raises needed money, and we hope that you will participate.

If you are interested in being a sponsor, simply fill out the reply sheet and send it back to the address indicated. In addition to this letter, Broadcasting, Debate and Forensics students will be visiting businesses with a similar packet. We simply know that we have missed parts of the community who would have been willing to participate in the past, and our hope is that by sending letters and sending out students, everyone who wants to participate will have the opportunity to do so.

In return for your sponsorship, you or your business will be added to the sponsor list that will run constantly as the telethon airs. In addition, you or you business will be mentioned as a sponsor of the show for the two weeks following the Telethon on BBS-21. By sponsoring a portion of the telethon you help the students involved in these communication activities and have a tax deductible way to promote your business in the process. Whatever you decide, we thank you for your time, and we hope you will tune in on March 27th.
