ተካበ ዘውዴ በኢትዮጵያ ታሪክ በችሎታው፣ በክብርና በህዝብ መወደድ ዋና ከሚባሉት የኢትዮጵያ አትሌቶች አንዱ ነው። የተካበ ተወዳጅነት በእግር ኳስ ተጫቾች ብቻ ሳይሆን በመላው ኢትዮጵያውያን ዘንድ ነው። ተካበ ዘውዴን ደግሞ ቀርበን ለምናውቀው በኳዝ ሜዳም ይሁን ውጭ ትልቅ ስብዕና ያለው፣ ጨዋ እና ጠንካራ ሰው ነው።
ባለፈው ወር ወንድማችን ተካበ ዘውዴ በካንሰር በሽታ እንደተያዘ አውቀናል። ይህ ዜና ሁላችንንም ያስደነገጠ ነገር ነው። ለተካበ ደግሞ ይህ በሽታ በህይወቱ ካጋጠሙት ፈተናዎች ዋናው ነው። ተካበም ይህንን ፈተና በሚገርም ግርማ ሞገስ እንደሚፋለመው ለአነጋገሩት ሰዎች ሁሉ ይናገራል። የተካበን የመንፈስ ጥንካሬ ብዙዎች የምናውቀው ቢሆንም በዚህ አስጊ ጊዜ በአለም ዙሪያ ያላችሁ ኢትዮጵያውያን እሱንም፣ ባለቤቱንና ሁለት ልጆቹን በፀሎት እንድታስቧቸው እንጠይቃለን።
በኢትዮጵያ የበረኝነት ዘመን ከድሬዳዋ የካቲት 66፣ ድሬዳዋ ከነማ፣ ድሬዳዋ ጨርቃ ጨርቅና፣ ሐረርጌ ምርጥ እስከ ኢትዮጵያ ብሄራዊ ቡድን ለሃገሩ ትልቅ ደስታን የሚፈጥሩ ትውስታዎችን የተወ ሰው ነው። ከሁሉም በላይ ደግሞ በ1980 ዓ.ም. በምስራቅና መካከለኛው አፍሪካ ዋንጫ ሁለት የፍፁም ቅጣት በማዳን፣ ሶስተኛውን ደግሞ የዚምባቡዌን ተጫዋች አርበትብቶ እንዲስት በማስደረግ ኢትዮጵያን የዋንጫ ባለቤት ያደረገበት ጨዋታ የማይረሳ ነው። ተካበ ዘውዴ አሜሪካን አገር ከገባበት ከ1984 ዓ.ም. ጀምሮ በሰሜን አሜሪካ የኢትዮጵያ ስፖርት ፌዴሬሽን በተጫዋችነት፣ አሰልጣኝነት፣ ቦርድ አባል እና ስራ አመራርነት እስከ አሁን ድረስ ለ28 አመታት ያገለግላል። በየትኛውም ሃላፊነቱ ተካበ በስራው ሁሉ ተወዳጅ እና ተግባቢ ሰው ነው።
ውድ ኢትዮጵያውያን! የካንሰር እና ተመሳሳይ በሽታዎች ቤተሰብና ታማሚው ላይ ከፍተኛ የገንዘብ ጫና እንደሚፈጥሩ የታወቀ ነው። ተካበ ዘውዴ ህይወቱን በሙሉ ለኢትዮጵያውያን እንደቆመ እኛም ለእርሱና ለቤተሰቦቹ የምንቆምበት አጋጣሚ ደርሶናል። ከሶስት አስርት አመታት በላይ ለዚህ ኢትዮጵያዊ ጀግና ምን አድርጌ ልካሰው ካላችሁ በዚህ ሊንክ ላይ በመሄድ ልባችሁ የፈቀደውን እንድትለግሱ በትህትና እንጠይቃችኋለን።
ተካበ ዘውዴ ህክምናውን በሰላም ጨርሶ፣ በተሻለ ጥንካሬና ጤንነት እንደምናገኘው እምነታችን ፅኑ ነው። እግዚአብሔር እድሜውን ያርዝምለት! ቤተሰቦቹንም ይባርክ!
Tekabe Zewde is one of the most talented, greatly respected and most beloved goalkeepers in Ethiopian football history. He is not new for fighting and standing up for what he believes on and off the field.
Today, our brother and national hero is facing a new challenge off the field. He has been diagnosed with cancer. This terrible news is met by the same determination we have come to expect from Tekabe. Millions of Ethiopians are familiar with his physical strength, but those close to him speak of an even greater mental strength Tekabe possesses. In fact, his strength of spirit has been a comfort to his wife, children, family as well as friends.
Tekabe has provided a lifetime of memories to his football fans and Ethiopians in general. He has literally and figuratively stood tall to represent our country on the world stage. It is our turn to stand by the hero who stood tall on all our behalf.
ESFNA, the organization he unselfishly served as a player, board and executive committee member, has initiated this fundraising drive to allow his friends, fans and Ethiopians in general to express their love and support to our beloved living legend.
Dear Ethiopians and friends of Ethiopia, we all know cancer takes a financial and emotional toll on patients and their family members. Please give generously to stand by our hero and to tell him we are right by his side as he embarks on the fight of his life.
