Tehilah Educare Expansion

I am a sophomore at Ohio State who has been volunteering at a daycare in a Cape Town township, called Tehilah Educare Center. It is located in an underprivileged area, and unfortunately the children here are often the greatest victims of this poverty. Tehilah's works tirelessly to provide its 80 students, aged 18 months to 6 years, with the educational and behavioral foundations to succeed in the future. While the word future is too often a large question mark for the children in the community, Tehilah's does it's best to send their students off into the next chapter of their academic careers with the skills and character to carry them through. In the education system in the townships, it is so easy for children to slip through the cracks and for potential to be squandered. Negative influences often outweigh positive influences in the kids' lives, and Tehilah's makes a crucial positive impact on their young development. Yet, as a nonprofit with sparse funding, it is very difficult for them to maintain operations. So much of their vision must be compromised due to insufficient funds. With this fundraiser, we are hoping to raise enough money to create an expansion for the center so that it can adequately serve the needs of its 80 students. As it stands now, Tehilah's is a cramped space with two rooms, and no outdoor area for the children to play. There are also not enough tables and chairs for all of the children, with some often having to do their school work on the ground. Sitting in the main room myself, it is about the size of a typical classroom with 3 classes sharing the space. If Tehilah can be expanded, it will benefit the children and the teachers greatly and will allow for more efficient and quality learning. These kids are so special and full of love, and the amazing teachers here work so hard for little in return. While donations are not often sustainable, this space will be and the children here deserve it. No amount of money is too small, and all of Tehilah Educare Center will appreciate this for years to come! Once the building procedures are ready to be put into action, I will personally hand over all proceeds to the principal of the school, and we will continue to be in close contact as the construction takes place. We are aiming to have finished this process by the end of 2017, and I will keep all donors in the loop as our efforts develop!

Our purpose is to provide a quality education for disadvantaged children in a severely underpriveledged community. Currently, our center is struggling with space, as we have just two rooms, altogether under 1,000 square feet.
