Help Sunshine Coast Teenagers to "TAKE CONTROL"

The kids of Sunshine Coast and Teens Take Control need you!

Teens Take Control (TTC) has now been running for over 2 years and seen over 100 local teens go through the program with some amazing results. (See testimonials from Maroochydore and Nambour High Schools below)

Founders Brenden Wilkins from Core Strength Fitness and Troy Leviston from Plumbers QLD have so far self-funded the entire set up and running cost of the program but now to continue the great work they and the kids need your help!

To keep 2016 up and running Teens Take Control are looking for the communities' help.

Donations will cover a student for 8 weeks of the program including;

• TTC Personal Safety & Wellbeing Program
• Equipment pack
o Gloves
o Wraps
o Shirt
o Course booklet
• Pick up and drop off to each session in TTC bus
• One on one mentoring
• Unlimited access to Core Strength Fitness facilities

Mental health issues such as depression, disengagement and anti-social behaviour are not new amongst our youth, but the occurrences and negative knock-on effects are on the rise.

Enough has been said and written about the many types of youth issues prevalent in our immediate community and beyond and our time to act is now.

But how can we help and who takes responsibility?

For the past two years, the Teens Take Control (TTC) program has been making a positive difference to the lives of Sunshine Coast teenagers and those around them. It is a teen mentoring program designed by local business owner Brenden Wilkins and his team from Core Strength Fitness, supported by Plumbers Queensland. TTC effectively guides and empowers teenagers to “take control” of their lives again.

Our kids are dealing with more issues every day, from social media bullying and increases in physical violence, to mental health issues, like depression and anti-social behaviour. TTC was developed to equip teenagers with the resilience, confidence and life-skills to face these challenges now and in the future. For the last two years we have self-funded the program, now widely recognised as a successful blueprint for harnessing the potential of our local youth and have delivered some outstanding results.

You are probably asking a few questions such as: What? Why? How? and Who? OK, let's answer those questions...

What?- The TEENS TAKE CONTROL  8 week program is more than just a sport, activity or any other martial arts program in Queensland.

Yes, the kids will learn authentic martial arts and practical self-defense, but the real objective of our program is to lead them to discover their true potential and be the best they can be, physically, mentally and emotionally. One of the most psychologically beneficial aspects of martial arts training is the increase in self-confidence. We’ve created a teen mentoring program and a unique curriculum that integrates traditional martial arts training with a personal development philosophy that’s guaranteed to bring real, lasting improvements in life’s key areas to help our youth achieve their true potential and see a purpose in life.

Why? - Put simply, because we are all parents.  Brenden and Antoinette have three girls, Troy and Tash have two boys and a girl, so we all understand the difficulties parents face when their children are suffering and we are left at the side-lines feeling helpless.  We can't just wave a magic wand to stop depressive moods and remove the bullies from school or facebook, however, we can offer them a program that will give them the tools and life-skills to build resilience, self-confidence, respect of self and others and equip them with strategies to manage anger and mood.

How? -Core Strength Fitness  has the perfect environment for the teens to learn and train in and Plumbers Queensland has helped to provide the transport to get the students to the gym.
Plumbers Queensland  has purchased a 22 seater bus to transport the students and one teacher from a participating school to Brenden's Core Strength Fitness gym at Maroochydore  . Brenden is providing the use of the gyms facilities, equipment, and access to some of the Sunshine Coast's best Martial Arts trainers, who will coach and mentor the teenagers and help them to Take Control.

Who? - The participating schools will choose the students who would best be suited to or are in need of the TTC program. Currently the program runs each school term, for 2 hours, 1 day a week, for 8 weeks. This is currently being delivered at no cost to the school or students, but there are still many costs involved that we cannot keep covering to keep the program running and this is why we need the communities help.

We have PROVEN results. Here are some testimonials from Maroochydore and Nambour High Schools below...
