#TeamViolet - Supporting Violet's Sensory Support

Donation protected
Laurie and over 165 children along with over 170 Adults of friends and family will be taking on the Nuclear Race on Saturday 18th May to help support their friend Violet.

This is a 3km course filled with around 15 obstacles. They will climb in & out of the muddiest ditches, scrabble under cargo nets, crawl tyre tunnels, over ramps, walls & monkey-bars as well as running in woods.

The Adult Team will be taking on the 7km & 12km course which has over 60 obstacles including the death slide.

Violet has Sensory Processing Disorder, a condition in which the brain has trouble receiving and responding to information which comes in through the senses. This means that simple everyday tasks such as walking along a street, looking at a book or being in a shop can result in a sensory overload which is extremely overwhelming and distressing for Violet. Needless to say life isn't easy for our little girl.

Violets progress over the last 5 years has been fantastic and we continued to see improvements in her communication and social interaction. Violet is now 11 and attends The Columbus School, a carefully selected special needs school in Chelmsford.

Violet is working under a specialist curriculum and her teachers have been pleased with her progress so far. It has been important for us to continue with The Son Rise Programme on the days that Violet doesn’t attend school and weekends, as the one on one interaction that it provides is a vital part of helping her with her daily challenges. The combination is working well.

Monies raised from this event will help continue to fund Violets Son-rise Program and also continue to fund an individual sensory plan with the help of a sensory specialist from Beanstalk Children's Therapy Centre who will attend Violets school as well as Violet attending the Beanstalk children's Therapy centre in Writtle.

The funds will also provide a sensory specialist to attend Violets School and train the teachers and TA's in sensory skills and techniques to support all the children at the school.

We will hopefully reach the target and also be able to increase the time Violet has with a sensory specialist to 3 times a week in her class for a year.

Violet may not be able to write a sentence or read a book but she is loving, bright and determined little girl. Violet can now tell you her name and she is continuing to develop and learn new skills everyday.

The sensory work which Violet has completed over the last year has been a massive game changer and really making a massive improvement to her life and wellbeing.

Thank you all for taking part, sponsoring, donating and supporting Violet and helping make a huge difference to her life.

Alex, Toni, Laurie & Violet
