Medical Bills for Cancer treatment

Donation protected
In June of 2012, our brother Paul Lemire, 42 years old, was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, stage 4. But that is the least of who he is. Paul has a gentle yet fiercely powerful spirit. Something you understand the moment you meet him. He is an avid hunter with a deep respect for nature and all its wonder. He is the 4th born of the 5 of us and has always been the brother each of us would go to when we needed a calm and compassionate voice. He would do anything for us and now we want to do everything we can for him.

Paul is lucky to have found the love of his life in his wife of 6+ years, Karen. They work side by side in a business they grew and continue to nurture. Paul does not have biological children, but he is a loved godfather to two of his nieces and a friend's daughter. And as fortune would have it Karen's young adult children have adopted him as their own and the feeling has been mutual.

Paul and Karen have many wonderful friends, and I am sure those friends will tell you how they are embraced by Karen and Paul with love and generosity.

In March of this 2012 Karen had a cancer scare. A mass was found on her lung, many tests were done and finally surgery to remove it. The doctors diagnosed it as lung cancer based on films and tests, but the surgery revealed it was a blood clot. Karen had survived a blood clot that traveled through her heart and settled in her lung and was NOT cancer! Karen and Paul had a renewed passion for love and life and their future. Less than three months later Paul received his diagnosis of pancreatic cancer. It was devastating.

Not willing to accept the "4 to 6 months, sorry nothing we can do," approach given, Paul has made a brave decision to receive treatment. Paul is receiving treatment at the James Cancer Center in Columbus, Ohio where he lives.

Paul's insurance will cover some of the treatment, but the high deductibles and co-pays for such extended treatments, not to mention what is already on their plate from Karen's experience will take its toll. We are hoping to ease that burden.

Despite setbacks and disappointments along the way, Paul continues to push forward finding strength in family, friends and faith.
