Jubal Brown & Mike Pillar ISDE Fund

Don protégé

This coming September, Jubal Brown and Mike Pillar will have the honor of representing the United States at the 90th running of the FIM International Six Days Enduro. This endeavor will present an incredible set of challenges for us as we tackle this life-long dream, but we are sure to be successful with your generosity and support.

Background of the Event

Often referred to as the Olympics of Motorcycling, the International Six Days Enduro is a true test of man and machine, as hundreds of riders from more than 30 countries battle with the elements and fellow competitors for 6 grueling days.

Commonly known as the “ISDE” or “Six Days,” competitors negotiate a demanding off-road course each day, and the total mileage for the entire event is well over 1000 miles. The rider himself is the only one allowed to work on any part of the motorcycle for the entirety of the event, and major components such as the engine, frame, and wheels may not be replaced, so it is a true test of endurance and mental fortitude.

The ISDE is the most prestigious off-road motorcycle competition in the world, and it is also the longest-running. The event has occurred every year since 1913, except for interruptions caused by the First and Second World Wars. This year’s International Six Days Enduro visits the dense forests and beautiful countryside of Kosice, Slovakia.

Fundraising for the Event

To help us succeed with this monumental task, we are asking for your help. As you may or may not know, the ISDE is incredibly expensive, and for privateer racers like us, almost everything must be paid for out of pocket. We are planning several local fundraising events to help us get there, but we are asking for your help to raise the funds to get to Slovakia and compete. Here is a basic breakdown of our costs:

Entry Fee is $690 per rider, plus an additional $300 per rider for FIM License and Insurance.
With all of the mandated lighting, equipment, and other accessories, each of our race bikes will cost easily over $10,000.
Mike and Jubal each have to pay $1800 to ship their motorcycles to Slovakia in the Team USA shipping container.
Airfare is over $1500 per person, and in addition to Mike and Jubal, the AMA requires that each rider brings a minimum of 1 support person to assist the team during the race.
Room and Board for the 2 weeks we are in Slovakia are close to $2000 per person. With family and support crew, this is going to add up quickly.
We also need to rent a car to transport us, our support crew, and our supplies to the checkpoints during the week of the race. This will run about $800.
The grand total we are hoping to raise, per person is $25,000.

About Jubal

Jubal started riding motorcycles during the summer between 8th and 9th grade. He had only been riding for about a week when he saw the iconic motorcycle film On Any Sunday for the first time. He was fascinated by the segment on the ISDT in El Escorial, Spain. Since then, the name has been changed from ISDT to ISDE, but it has been Jubal’s ultimate dream and number-one goal in life ever since.

After dreaming about it for years and paying his dues coming through the ranks, Jubal became serious about trying to qualify for Team USA at the end of 2011. He narrowly missed the cutoff in 2012, 2013, and 2014, but his perseverance paid off and this year everything came together for him; it was an accomplishment 15 years in the making!

About Mike

Mike started riding at age 5, and it didn’t take long for his interest in Six Days to emerge. A 6th grade school assignment asked him to pick a destination he wanted to go to and then develop an itinerary for a dream vacation. While most of his classmates wrote about trips to Hawaii or Disneyland, he chose Brazil to go watch the 2003 ISDE.

Mike began trying to qualify in 2012. His first attempt did not go according to plan, as a mechanical DNF ended his quest prematurely, but he didn’t give up. He contested both ISDE Qualifiers in 2013 and 2014 before finally earning a spot in the E1 division for last year’s ISDE in Argentina. Unfortunately, a freak electrical failure took him out of the competition on Day 2 last year, so he is definitely looking for redemption in Slovakia.
